Passion for the ancient tradition of viticulture

Our small wine estate

We own a small plot of land about 2000 metres from the village, where the typical South Tyrolean red wine Schiava has been cultivated for decades. Since 2007, we have also been making our house wine, Michele Wirt Vernatsch/Schiava, which we initially bottled as an open red wine on tap. For the last three years, we have offered it in 0.75 bottles, which we also served to our guests.

However, 2015 was the last vintage of the Vernatsch/Schiava variety. The plant had to be modernised, as the yield and conditions no longer met the current requirements for modern wine ageing.

Planting of the two new grape varieties began in May 2016. We opted for the white wine variety Chardonnay and the red wine variety Pinot Noir. These two varieties are ideal for the location and soil.

Great importance was also placed on the aesthetics of the new planting. The metal frame system was fixed to pillars made of local chestnut wood.

Partners of the new Pföstl winery
Stefan Pföstl has succeeded in realising his dream of having his own wine cellar with the renovation of the new Schenna Resort. Together with his cellar master Georg Weger, they are breaking new ground in winemaking, and we are already looking forward to great results and tastings.

Wine and wine list
We in the Hölzl family attach great importance to wine culture and have good contacts with local winegrowers and producers.

It is particularly important for us to offer you red and white wines from South Tyrol, but we also have some wines from other Italian regions on our wine list. Many of these are also available by the glass. We make sure that every guest can enjoy the great variety and diversity of South Tyrol.
